November, 7-11 Askeri Gallery participated in XXIInd Shanghai Art Fair and presented artworks by Peter Opheim and Conor Mccreedy at the booth B19.
Peter Opheim is American-based artist, who was born in Germany. He is currently working in New York.
Opheim began his way in the art sphere as an abstractionist, but later he moved away from this direction. He wanted to create something unique, unusual and provocative - and so a series of works depicting the incredible clay figures was born.
Opheim has had more than 30 exhibitions around the world. Peter Opheim devises fictional characters by making small figures out of clay and then paints their portraits on large-format canvases. Some of his creations have anthropomorphic shapes; others resemble children's cartoon characters. Opheim’s bizarre heroes friend, walk, feel lonely. ‘I create imaginary figures to talk about what it means to be human, our shared humanity’, the artist explains.
Conor Mccreedy was born in Johannesburg (South Africa) in 1987. He is famous for his textured monochrome large-scale works. The artist branded his blue color as Mccreedyblue. Mccreedy explores the creative gesture, the connection between his own emotions and visual material, in an effort to overcome visual barriers.
Thecreativity of Mccreedy was influenced by the
legendary ‘master of blue’
Yves Klein, Willem de Kooning, Gerhard Richter and Pablo Picasso. The artist is
also inspired by vibrant nature of South Africa, where he came from.
