Press release
Museum-reserve "Kuzminki-Lublino" and ASKERI GALLERY present a joint project "Between the past and the future. Contemporary Artists at the Lublino Estate". The exhibition from June 29 to July 22, 2022 will be housed in the Museum-estate "Lublino" with the support of the Department of Culture of Moscow.
Museum-Estate "Lublino" - a unique architectural complex of the early XIX century, located within the city of Moscow on the territory of the park Lublinsky. N. Durasov became the famous owner of the estate, and it is under his reign the estate acquired the features that have been preserved to this day. It has always been a favourite recreation place for many noble families, people of art, scientists and foreign guests.
Curatorial project by Polina Askeri, prepared by the Museum and ASKERI GALLERY, forms a much needed dialogue between classics and modernity.
Finding themselves in a space, preserving history and aesthetics of the XIX century, the works of modern authors get new sounding, and at the same time they fix continuity between ideas, meanings and eternal process of spiritual search. At the same time, the project raises the problem of integration as one of the most important tasks of contemporary art, which faces young artists and sculptors. It is no coincidence that all participants of the exhibition are focused primarily on decorative and spatial solutions.
Tema Syulev is a Moscow-based artist and sculptor whose work is inspired by living nature. The author uses the principles of industrial drawings in his work and creates his objects from the most modern materials. The artist's work is full of aspirations for the future, but the smoothness of forms and realistic schemes take us back to the Renaissance.
Moscow artist Pavel Polyanski speaks to the viewer in the language of futurism and fantasy. Laconic gray-and-white coloristics, close to sepia, or even medieval grisaille, allows the artist to achieve the association of the image with a photograph and to achieve maximum realism, despite the sometimes absolutely surrealistic subject matter.
Daria Kotlyarova, a metropolitan artist by birth, uses traditional means of artistic expression, but the works she creates are modern, fantastical and deeply philosophical. Bright colors and accentuated realism of the images immerse the viewer into a world of fantasy and at the same time, memories: like her famous grandfather, Lev Kotlyarov, Daria talks about space, putting into this concept something much more than we are accustomed to notice. In her works, the artist interprets the idea that every person is, in fact, the embodiment of space. This makes her kindred not only with modern authors, but also with the masters of antiquity, who sought the ideal of the human body and soul in the distant starry heavens. Multicultural artist Masha Rudenko chooses corporeality and sensuality to speak to the viewer. The interest in the human body has always been deep in the roots of art around the world. It is close to us even now. The artist works at the intersection of performance art, video art, photography, collage, painting and body art to explore the phenomenon of the body and immerse the viewer in a state of self-discovery.
A graduate of the workshops of Aidan Salakhova and Sergey Ossovsky, Gleb Skubachevsky considers himself a researcher who creates new forms of life. Gleb Skubachevsky's unique and incredibly complex art objects are a combination of scientific research and artistic statement, which brings the works of this artist closer to Renaissance painting and sculpture.
Siberian designer Vladimir Ivanov works with traditional materials - ceramics, plaster, wood and metal - to create familiar and beloved images. These are touching "Cheburashka" and "kittens," reminiscent of Soviet fairy tales and cartoons. Despite their futuristic forms and striking design, Ivanov's sculptures also fit well into classic interiors, entering into a dialogue with antique works of arts and crafts.
"I recently discovered the Lublino Estate Museum and immediately fell in love with the place. Together with the management of the park, ASKERI GALLERY has developed a project-intervention of contemporary art in the classic spaces, occupying all levels of the Durasov Palace - says the project curator, Polina Askeri - I remembered the great exhibitions of Jeff Koons in Versailles, Jan Fabre in the Hermitage and Recycle Group at Pushkin Museum-Reserve, and am pleased to continue this baton, introducing the work of talented artists ASKERI GALLERY in the estate museum "Lublino". I hope that this project will allow us to take a new look not only at paintings, objects and sculptures by contemporary artists, but also to discover a beautifully restored Moscow estate.
