ELUSIVE WORLDS
24.06.2021 - 09.07.2021
Press release
From June 24 to July 7, the ASKERI GALLERY will host a personal exhibition by Gleb Skubachevsky "Elusive Worlds".The artist's new series was inspired by photographs of various protozoa taken with an electron microscope. He continues to work in the author's technique with paper and turns to painting and graphics on canvas.
Gleb approaches the creation of works of art as a researcher, for hours looking at pictures of organisms, metals, diamonds, stones in high resolution. So, the artist's work can be compared with portraits that he paints from nature.
"Portraits" of elusive worlds tell us that life can take completely different forms. We rarely pay attention to microorganisms, but ultimately, they are as important as you and I, because their absence would make it impossible for us to appear, ”- Gleb Skubachevsky.
An artist with a professional academic education, a native of the workshop of Aidan Salakhova and Sergei Ossovsky, a participant in about 10 foreign residences, he studied color from a computer. “There are very beautiful vibrant colors that are difficult to come up with if you have never seen them,” Skubachevsky admits.
Microscopic images create an effect similar to photographs of galaxies. This is our own space, which we can hold in our hands.
“I remember how Gleb was just starting his career as an artist. His works already stood out among the works of other artists: as if alive, breathing, thinking.
"By the way, I have one of his first works in my collection. I see how over the years Gleb has been improving his technique. His new series, bright and bold, about the microcosms around us, existing according to their own laws and completely independent of us, but making the world in which we live so beautiful and complex ”, - Polina Askeri.
