Press release
On November 21, ASKERI GALLERY hosted the opening of the exhibition "Can't Wait for Tomorrow." The gallery presented works by two artists: Russian artist Danya Sobolev and Kuala Lumpur-based master Soh Boon Kiong.
Both artists explore the most profound and intense human emotions. Danya Sobolev’s expressive primitivism addresses negative emotions and ways of navigating them. By associating anxiety, apathy, and panic with a sticky swamp and likening a person to a frog trapped within it, he offers various perspectives on overcoming challenges and encourages viewers to wait for a better “tomorrow.”
In contrast, Malaysian artist Soh Boon Kiong focuses on experiencing emotions in the present moment, emphasizing the importance of subtle details and sensations. His vibrant abstractions celebrate fleeting positive feelings, highlighting their significance in everyone’s life.
«The processes of self-discovery and self-healing are closely interconnected. To overcome anxiety and apathy, to learn to deeply feel every moment of life, one must identify and heal inner wounds. This is why it is so important to look at the world from different perspectives, recognizing both its brightest and darkest shades. Moreover, we must always remember that true emotions arise in chaos and do not always conform to external control. I am delighted that ASKERI GALLERY's artists are capable of engaging in a bold and honest dialogue about emotions. Such open conversations are not just a societal need but a vital necessity for further personal growth and development.»
