Askeri Gallery presents the first Russian exhibition of the French artist Romain Froquet.

Romain Froquet lives and works in Paris. He was born in 1982 in Villeurbanne, and from an early age was interested in drawing. Starting with graffiti, he created his own visual language, which roots can be found in abstract art, op art, African art, ornaments of art deco and street art. Because of active development of his method, Romain Froquet regularly finds new forms of street art and fresh ideas for exhibition projects, including creating installations and sculpture. He does not limit himself to urban spaces or canvases. As a follower of urban art, he looks at buildings, interiors, glass, fabric and more – like at surface for future drawings.

The expressive style of Romain Froquet allows him to be convincing in any media – drawing on paper, where he likes to compete with the printed newspaper page in expressiveness, in the oil paintings (or acrylic), where the frame of the canvas limit his temperamental brush, and, of course, on the walls of large buildings – inside and out. His murals have the ability to transform space, change all around as the magical forest. The artist achieves in his works three-dimensionality, building optical illusion of architecture.

Participant of many exhibitions and art projects around the world, was repeatedly invited by major brands to collaborate. For example, he designed the ceiling painting in the largest Parisian Department store Printemps for its 150th anniversary. Many exhibitions, including the Centre Pompidou, the projects in galleries and spaces of France, USA, UK and Switzerland, increase the interest in the work of Romain Froquet among art institutions and collectors.

Avoiding the conventions of classical compositions, the artist skillfully combines ethnic ornamentation, dynamics of manga and conciseness of modernism. Romain Froquet is inspired by abstractions by Jean-Paul Riopelle, Jackson Pollock and Willem De Kooning. One feels the influence of the late Picasso and abstract art of Arshile Gorky in his works. The artist’s sensual abstraction is able to capture the viewer, make him feel the idea and rhythm of the picture.
